My Home Library Big Awesome Book Sort (May 2019)

We’re committed to serving the more than 6,000 Houston-area students who are counting on receiving their home libraries, and we know we can’t do it without volunteers like you. Grab your friends and family and come on out, teen volunteers are welcome. Please feel free to share this opportunity with any of your networks or organizations that may be interested. Grab your friends from Thursday, May 9th through Saturday, May 11th and volunteer to help sort books for Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation's My Home Library program.. This will be our biggest book sort ever – come be a part of sorting new books for over 5,000 children!

My Home Library is an initiative of the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation aimed at providing more children access to books in the home. Children log onto the My Home Library website to create a wish list of six books to build their home library. Then, members of the community sponsor a child's library.
During this event, volunteers will set up, sort and bag over 30,000 books selected by children in 13 Houston-area schools through the Foundations’ My Home Library initiative. On Thursday afternoon (5/9 12:30-3:00pm), volunteer roles will include unloading and sorting boxes of books, so volunteers must be willing and able to carry up to 15-25lbs. On Friday (5/10) and Saturday (5/11), volunteers will be sorting books into bags for children.
This event will be located at the Region 4 Education Service Center, 7200 Northwest 100 Dr, Houston, TX 77092. Due to capacity restrictions at our event, participation requires registration;walk in volunteers will not be accepted.
Youth ages 16-18 are welcome to participate (limit of 25 volunteers age 16-18 per shift). All volunteers under the age of 18 will need to bring a volunteer liability waiver to the event, signed by their parent or guardian. This waiver can be found at this link.
