Core Literacy Programs
The Y is working to improve the educational readiness, engagement and outcomes of the community’s children, so that they can pursue their best possible future.
1 in 4 third graders fail to meet the minimum satisfactory level on state reading tests and economically disadvantaged youth score 19% lower in reading than their non-economically disadvantaged peers. We have implemented a policy of at least 30 minutes of reading in Y after school programs daily as well as book clubs and specialty literacy programs.
