East Side University Village Community Learning Center

Mission

Helping Houston through Re-entry Education And Development (READ) programming, EastSide University Community Learning Center provides high school equivalency preparation, technology application and digital literacy, second language fluency, career and college preparation, and successful living courses. ESU volunteers provide literacy tutoring, front office support, mentoring, special topic presentations, and assistance with special events onsite and in the community.

Core Literacy Programs

Literacy Tutors
Literacy tutors provide one-on-one or small group sessions helping adults develop reading, writing, and math skills for exam preparation or personal enrichment goals. Service time requested: 2 hours per week.

Second Language Proficiency Tutors
Second language tutors provide one-on-one or small group sessions helping adults acquire reading, writing, and oral fluency in English or Spanish. Includes tutoring in the second language for workplace contexts. Service time requested: 2 hours per week.

Digital Literacy Tutors
Digital literacy tutors provide one-on-one or small group sessions helping adults develop introductory or applied technology skills. Includes tutoring in computer usage for workplace contexts. Service time requested: 2 hours per week.

Front End Support
Front end support volunteers provide first contact service by answering phones, greeting visitors, and directing inquiries for adult education services. Service time requested: 2-4 hours per week.

Special Events Support
Special events volunteers provide assistance during programs, fundraisers, or other annual or one-time service projects. Service time requested: 1-3 hours per event.
